Festival MUMES

The thirteenth edition of MUMES returns this year to the south of the island of Tenerife on 8 and 10 July in an evening dedicated to reggae and Mestizo music, an event that will give the public an opportunity to get to know groups of the Canary Islands and the rest of the planet within this musical genre.

The Canarian band, Ruts & Island Music and DJ Dab Maia, and Spyrow band, from Ivory Coast, will kick off the festival on 8 July which will be continued by the band Djarabikan Balafon on Sunday 10. The band is made up by a group of young people seeking to promote and preserve the ancestral heritage of the balafon, a native instrument from Africa.

There will also be several parallel activities to the festival during July, starting with a recycling workshop, landscapes from Africa, on 7 and 12 July in the cultural center of Los Cristianos. On July 14 in the TEA Tenerife Espacio de los Artes, MUMES will pay tribute to Bob Marley, 35 years after his death, through the screening of a film dedicated to the life of the Jamaican musician free of charge.

Finally, on July 15 the exhibition of photojournalism Jambo Africa, from the journalist Daniel Millet, will be opened in Los Cristianos . This photo exhibition shows the result of Millet’s trips to Gambia, Kenya and Tanzania, and it will also present the works made in the recycling workshop. The exhibition can be visited from 16 to 31 July, every day during office hours from 10:00 to 21:00 with free admission. After the inauguration, the MUMES Award 2016 will be given to a work in favor of multiculturalism.
