Jornadas Colombinas In La Gomera

This year marks the LIV edition of the “Jornadas Colombinas” organized by the Cabildo Insular de La Gomera to honor the stop-over Christopher Columbus made in La Gomera before discovering America, celebration which will have a rich cultural program.

On 1 September, the program opens with Pedro Trujillo Cruz’s exhibition of painting and sculpture in the Casa de Colón, and later Luis Alberto Hernandez’s one. On day 4, the Quartet Piazolla will perform in a concert suitable for all audiences. The next day, a parade, various shows and Mencey Romántico’s and Grupo Jeita’s performances will encourage all attendees.

The event culminates with the offering on September 6, the day that Christopher Columbus sailed to America in 1492 from La Gomera, of a wreath into the sea from a patrol ship of the Spanish Navy, docked at the pier of San Sebastián de La Gomera, after which the Salve Marinera is interpreted in honor of the missing people at sea.
