The World Environment Day is celebrated every year on the 5th of June, and is the world’s greatest celebration for positive environmental action. So the island La Palma has developed the environmental education program ‘La Palma Recicla’, with which they aim to inform their residents about the correct treatment of waste, to change their waste management in the longer term. Also the island El Hierro is a great role model in relation to environmental protection, as it is the first island in Europe which is supplied to 100% by renewable energies, thanks to their innovative central hydro-wind system.
