Vará Del Pescao In Gran Canaria

On August 26 it will be held in the municipality of Agüimes, south of the island of Gran Canaria, the XXI edition of “Vará del Pescao” in a tradition that offers fun for everyone.

The aim of this event is to remember the traditional way in which fishermen used to sell their products using conches in order to attract the public, that got to buy the freshest fish just caught. In the most important day, "La barca de la Vará" (“The ship of Vará”) runs the Maritime Avenue of the Beach of Arinaga with hundreds of kilos of fresh sardines accompanied by women carrying baskets on their heads. In the evening hours, the attendees can also enjoy music and dance in a popular festival to be taken place in the Square of Arinaga.

The parade has become a symbol of the island, which musters thousands of people every year that will also be able to see a beautiful show of fireworks, final point of the event. Additionally, it is recommended to dress the maritime traditional costume to dive further into this festivity.
