If you enjoy culture and traditional celebrations, Oceanbooking has the perfect recommendation for you: in just a few days the famous Feria de Málaga will take place. Each August the streets of Real del Cortijo de Torres and the historical centre of the town will be crowded by tourists as well as malagueños, as there will be a lot of shows to see and activities to do.

The summer festivities of Málaga has its origins in the commemoration of the incorporation of the city in the Crown of Castile by the Catholic Kings, who entered Málaga the 19th of August of 1487. In 1491, coinciding with the liturgical celebrations of the Capitol Cathedral, the City Council established the beginning of the popular celebrations. Since then, a so called Feria has always been celebrated around these dates. Nowadays, the feria de Málaga is celebrated as the Big Summer Celebration, with an open, cosmopolitical and international touch. Each year a spectacular program is put together, with a huge variety of events and activities.

In the historic centre of Málaga (Feria del Centro) the main acts will be traditional dances and songs, with the programs of Flamenco en Feria, live music on the public places and the Intercultural Music and Dancing Festival on Plaza de la Merced. At the same time, you will find the faris stands in the location of Real de la Feria, an area more than 800.000 square kilometers big. The stands will host the majority of social organisations and installations of Málaga, such as folklore groups, fraternities, companies and associations.

What is more, during the fair, all the museums of Málaga will open their doors and show special exhibitions. The Picasso-Museo Casa Natal Fundation, for example, will present the exhibition “Picasso: momentos decisivos”, which shows pivotal moments in the life of the famous artist. If you’re not a big fan of arts, you might be interested in another kind of cultural event: the typical bullfights. During the whole fair, there will take place several bullfights at the Plaza de Toros La Malagueta.

What you really can’t miss, are the most important events of the fair, like its opening on the 12th of August, which is accompanied by a huge firework, and the pageant to the Basílica Santuario de Sta. María de la Victoria on the same day. The fair will be closed with a historical procession, that reenacts the entry of the Catholic Kings in the city of Málaga.

Let’s go to the Feria de Málaga 2017 and enjoy it from the 12th to the 20th of August!

And if you don’t have an accommodation in Málaga yet, you will find it here.
